## Method 1: Visualping Chrome Extension (Easiest)

The [Visualping Chrome extension](https://visualping.io/chrome-extension/) is the simplest way to monitor pages behind a login. It captures your active browser session, so if you can see the page in Chrome, Visualping can monitor it.

### Steps

1. Install the [Visualping Chrome extension](https://visualping.io/chrome-extension/) from the Chrome Web Store
2. Navigate to the password-protected page in your browser and log in normally
3. Once you see the page you want to monitor, click the Visualping extension icon
4. Choose your monitoring mode:
   - **Device mode**: Uses your local browser session. Works with any authentication method, including two-factor authentication and single sign-on. The check runs on your machine.
   - **Server mode**: Captures your session data and sends it to Visualping's servers for background monitoring. More reliable for frequent checks but requires sessions that do not expire quickly.

The extension automatically captures cookies and local storage values from your active browser session. This means complex authentication flows (2FA, SSO, OAuth) are handled automatically without any manual cookie extraction. In Server mode, these captured session values are sent to Visualping's servers so checks can run in the background.

5. Select the area of the page to monitor (or monitor the full page)
6. Set your check frequency and notification email
7. Click **Start Monitoring**

### When to use this method

Use the Chrome extension when:
- The site uses complex authentication (2FA, SSO, OAuth)
- You want the fastest setup with no configuration
- You are already logged into the site in Chrome

### Limitations

Device mode checks only run when your computer is on and Chrome is open. For 24/7 monitoring, use Server mode or pre-actions (Method 2).

## Method 2: Pre-Actions with Element Selector

Pre-actions tell Visualping's server-side crawler to perform login steps before taking a screenshot. You define a sequence of type and click actions that replicate what you do manually: type your username, type your password, click the login button, wait for the page to load.

### Steps

**Step 1:** Go to [visualping.io](https://visualping.io/) and paste the URL of the login page into the search bar. Click **GO**.

**Step 2:** The page preview loads. Scroll down to the **Advanced** section and expand **Perform actions**.

**Step 3:** Set up the username action. Under the first action:
- Change the dropdown from **Click** to **Type**
- In the "Words to type" field, enter your username or email
- Click the arrow icon (element selector) and click on the username field in the page preview above

If the element selector does not highlight the correct field, you can manually enter the field's ID or XPath. To find it, right-click the username field in any browser, choose **Inspect**, and look for the `id` attribute on the `<input>` element.

Enter it in the "Field name (or XPath)" box. Alternatively, use the XPath format: `//input[@id="email"]`.

**Step 4:** Click **+ Add action** for the password. Again select **Type**, enter your password in "Words to type", and use the element selector to click the password field in the preview. Or enter the field's ID or XPath manually.

**Step 5:** Click **+ Add action** for the login button. Keep the action set to **Click**. Use the element selector to click the login/submit button in the preview. Or type the button text ("Log In", "Submit", "Sign In") in the "Button name (or XPath)" field.

**Step 6:** Click **+ Add action** and select **Wait**. Set it to 2-3 seconds. This gives the page behind the login form time to load before Visualping takes the screenshot.

**Step 7:** Click **GO** to test. If the preview shows the authenticated page, the pre-actions are working.

**Step 8:** Set your check frequency, select the area of the page to monitor, enter your notification email, and click **Start Monitoring**.

### Finding XPath or Element IDs

If the element selector does not work (some pages use custom UI components that are hard to click), you can find the element's XPath manually:

**In Chrome (or any Chromium browser):**
1. Right-click the form field and select **Inspect** (see [Chrome DevTools DOM docs](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/dom/) for a full walkthrough)
2. In the Elements panel, the `<input>` element is highlighted
3. Right-click the highlighted element, go to **Copy**, then **Copy XPath**
4. Paste the XPath into Visualping's "Field name (or XPath)" box

**In Firefox:**
1. Right-click the form field and select **Inspect Element**
2. In the Inspector panel, right-click the highlighted element
3. Go to **Copy**, then **XPath**

The XPath typically looks like `//input[@id="username"]` or `//button[@type="submit"]`.

### When to use this method

Use pre-actions when:
- The site has a standard username/password login form
- You need 24/7 server-side monitoring (not dependent on your computer being on)
- The site does not require two-factor authentication

### Limitations

Pre-actions do not work with two-factor authentication, CAPTCHA-protected logins, or JavaScript-heavy single-page app login flows that the crawler cannot render. For those situations, use the Chrome extension (Method 1), which automatically captures your session regardless of the authentication method.

## Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you run into problems when you monitor password-protected websites, start here.

### The preview shows the login page instead of the authenticated content

- **Pre-actions:** Double-check that the element selectors or XPaths point to the correct fields. Test by clicking **GO** after each action to see where the process breaks.
- **Chrome extension:** Your session may have expired. Log in again in Chrome and the extension will automatically recapture your session data.
- **Wait time:** Increase the wait action to 5-10 seconds. Some sites load slowly after login.

### The crawler logs in but monitors the wrong page

Make sure the URL in Visualping is the page you want to monitor after login, not the login page itself. Some sites redirect after login to a default dashboard. If you need a specific page, use the direct URL of that page.

### Changes are detected but they are just session-specific elements

Use Visualping's area selector to exclude dynamic elements like timestamps, session IDs, or "Last logged in" messages. Focus the monitoring area on the content that actually matters.

### The site blocks Visualping's crawler

Some sites detect and block automated access. The Chrome extension in Device mode avoids this because it uses your real browser. For server-side methods, try adding a longer wait time or contact Visualping support for help with specific sites. ## Security Considerations

When you provide login credentials to any monitoring tool, keep these points in mind:

- **Visualping encrypts credentials** used in pre-actions. They are stored securely and used only for the crawl.
- **Use a dedicated monitoring account** where possible. Create a separate login with read-only access rather than using your personal admin credentials.
- **Review permissions regularly.** If you change your password or revoke access, update your Visualping job to match.

## FAQ: Monitoring Password-Protected Websites

These are the most common questions we get from users who monitor password-protected websites with Visualping.

**Can Visualping monitor pages that require two-factor authentication?**
Yes. Use the Chrome extension (Method 1), which automatically captures your session after you complete 2FA in the browser. Pre-actions (Method 2) cannot handle 2FA because the crawler cannot receive or enter a verification code.

**How often can I check a password-protected page?**
The same frequencies available for any Visualping job: every 5 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly, daily, or weekly.

**What happens when my session expires?**
If using the Chrome extension in Server mode, the crawler may see the login page instead of the authenticated content when the session expires. You will get an alert showing the "change." Log back into the site in Chrome and the extension will recapture your session automatically. In Device mode, the extension uses your live browser session, so staying logged in keeps monitoring active.

**Can I monitor multiple pages behind the same login?**
Yes. Set up separate Visualping jobs for each page. If using pre-actions, each job will perform the login independently. If using the Chrome extension, each job captures its own session.

**Does this work with single sign-on (SSO) systems like Okta or Azure AD?**
Yes. The Chrome extension handles SSO because it automatically captures your active browser session, including all cookies and local storage values set by the SSO provider. Pre-actions generally cannot replicate SSO flows.

**Is it safe to store my login credentials in Visualping?**
Visualping encrypts credentials used in pre-actions. For maximum security, use a dedicated read-only account and the Chrome extension in Device mode, which keeps authentication entirely on your machine.

**Can I monitor password-protected RSS or Atom feeds?**
Yes. If the feed URL requires authentication, paste it into Visualping and use the **Cookie** action under **Perform actions** to add the required authentication cookies manually. This is one of the edge cases where adding cookies directly is the best approach. Below are the steps on how to use the pre-action tools. For examples, we’ve pulled from a few pharmacy pages that thousands of our users are monitoring to [sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine](https://visualping.io/blog/where-to-sign-up-coronavirus-vaccine-top-pages/) when slots become available.

#### Tutorial 1: How to Monitor Nearby Vaccine Slots at H-E-B Pharmacy

**Step 1:** To monitor vaccine slots in your local pharmacy, copy and paste the URL of the page you want to monitor into the search field on Visualping’s homepage. Click **Go**.

Don’t worry about making a Visualping account first -- you do this after.

In this example, we’re using H-E-B pharmacy’s vaccine scheduler: [https://vaccine.heb.com/scheduler](https://vaccine.heb.com/scheduler).

**Step 2:** Use the pre-action tools to tell Visualping to type your zip code on the page, so it can check for changes amongst a list of vaccine appointments **in your area**. Here’s how.

**a.** Under **Perform actions**, select the action **Type** in the dropdown menu and enter your zip code in the **Words to Type** form.

**b.** Click the white arrow and use it to click the form on your web page above, so Visualping knows where to type your information on the page.

**c.** Click **Add action** to add another task. This time, select **Click** under the dropdown options.

**d.** Again, click the white arrow, and use it to click the Search button on your above web page.

The pre-action tools are now set up: every time Visualping checks the page for changes, it will use your postal code to check for available vaccine slots in your area. It’s that easy.

**Step 3:** But you still have to finish setting up your monitor: adjust the window in your web page to fully capture the information you want checked.

**Step 4:** Select the frequency of checks – every 5 minutes, hour, day, week, etc.

**Step 5:** Enter the email address you want the email alerts to be sent to.

**Step 6:** Click **Start Monitoring!** To finish setting up your account to be alerted of page changes, follow the prompt sent to your email address to make a password. And that’s it.

With managed jobs, pressing monitors like these will have dedicated administrators who track the job performance and fix any issues that may arise.

It’s about providing users the flexibility of monitoring page changes without fretting about setting up the job perfectly. Leave managing the creation and maintenance of a job to us, so you don’t have to.

#### How to Enroll in a Managed Job?

When you copy and paste the page’s URL in the search bar of our homepage, our system will check whether there is a managed job available for that page. If so, you’ll be met with a pop-up offering the option to try the managed version of the page.

Select **Try Now**, and you’ll return to the homepage with the preconfigured settings. Customize the frequency you wish Visualping to check the page for you, and finish creating the job by clicking **Start Monitoring**.

#### Can I try it Now and Change My Mind Later?

You sure can. You can delete or disable a managed job from your dashboard by clicking on the **Managed** button on the job. A pop will appear with the option to **Opt Out**.

#### How we are using machine learning to reduce false positives

Who likes fire drills? You work in a high rise downtown office and everyone is asked to leave and meet at an assigned gathering area on the street. If your office is on the 52nd floor, which means slogging down 52 floors by foot. A rainy day will make a fire drill miserable. Fire drills have a purpose but they always come at the worst possible time, when you are busy.

So the answer is, nobody, absolutely nobody, likes fire drills. 

At Visualping, we feel the same about false alerts. They are like fire drills: they happen from time to time and they happen for a good reason. False alerts notify you that something changed on the pages that you are tracking, but that change is simply not relevant to your business case. If they happen too often, they can erode part of the productivity you and your team gain from automation services like Visualping.

The Web is a constantly evolving ecosystem built atop layers of highly complex interacting systems that can lead to unpredictable behaviour. Changes to websites have accelerated as more and more human and business activity happens online. As a result we are continuously improving our systems to differentiate between relevant and noisy changes. The needs of our corporate clients have also increased in scope. Visualping has users in 85% of Fortune 500 companies with some customers relying on our services for monitoring tens of thousands of pages. For those users, minimizing false alerts improves the efficiency of their downstream workflows and thus reduces operational costs.

Our original product has evolved over the years to reduce false alerts; including heuristic interventions to block page elements like ads, social media counters, and dynamic content that are changing, but are not important for our users. Until today, identifying an intervention strategy for specific pages has been a manual process. Finding a way to identify and block these elements automatically is where our developments in machine learning have started.

We now allow users to directly train Visualping’s worker bots (the crawlers visiting pages to check for changes on their behalf) in the simplest possible way. With just one click on the email alerts received, users can rank the quality of the alert: good, neutral or bad. Our algorithms will identify consistent patterns by comparing this feedback with element-level changes on the page to evolve a strategy for effective change detection, without the noise.

#### Machine learning at every level

We are particularly excited about this new direction and the substantial investment in training models to bring greater flexibility and automation to our core crawler stack. It is our crawl workers that mediate Visualping’s interaction with the Web and conduct crawls on behalf of our customers. We think about it as bringing the next generation of adaptive behaviour to the cutting edge of crawl technology with the aim of evolving our crawl workers to be more intelligent agents on the Web and make use of user feedback to adjust crawler parameters when visiting a Web property to ensure that the content is correctly parsed and meaningful to the intention driving that visit.

This is where Visualping is really set up to succeed. We can leverage our scale to combine feedback across users with similar target pages in order to improve the parameters of our crawlers and propose optimal settings for those users as they create new jobs. The feedback loop between our customers and the systems driving our crawlers will allow us to create an ever evolving, large-scale, human-annotated dataset. It’s every ML scientist’s pipe dream!

Alongside the launch of Visualping for Business in the fall, we’ll also be deploying a reinforcement learning model that helps choose optimization strategies to ensure a high rate of success when accessing, parsing, and reporting meaningful changes on candidate Web properties. This new feature set is fueled by our aforementioned feedback mechanism, which allows users to provide quick feedback any time a change is reported.

#### Webscale intelligence and web data maintenance

Another exciting trend is the increased evolution of specific and trending use cases that our customers have revealed to us within our own product. The flexibility of Visualping means that often we are surprised by a particular application we never thought of. This leads to a growing corpus of related use cases that will fuel many business intelligence applications and cost saving automations for the modern enterprise.

One of the most common commercial applications of our system is web-data maintenance: our users have collected large databases of information but that information continuously changes. Visualping change alerts allows those large databases to keep up with the pace of change we see today. Some of our customers are already using our API to automate these interactions and update this data automatically. Alongside the Visualping for business launch we will be releasing a version 2.0 API with additional functionality for users who want to further streamline their change monitoring pipeline.

Another exciting area of opportunity is exploratory and unsupervised analyses. Every data scientist loves a good fishing expedition, especially when building custom tooling to extract meaningful patterns feeds directly into potential business intelligence services. If a commercial user is interested in a specific set of changes online, chances are other businesses are as well. We are currently prototyping graph theoretical representations of our customer jobs corpus to better leverage the volume and diversity of our use cases to provide strategic insight into web properties most important and most actively related to particular domains of interests.

This is a really exciting machine learning problem, and the quality of our offerings in the space are set up to scale alongside their utilization! This is where I imagine we’ll be increasing our investment and focus as business use cases make up a larger proportion of our crawl job volume.

#### Still lots to look forward to in 2021

Behind these exciting feature developments, there is a crazy amount of work to do and the dev team is buzzing with energy. For my part, I’m excited to be building a data science dream team from scratch and busy with getting the foundation right.

Any ML pipeline can only ever be as good as the data assets at our disposal. That’s why we’re focussing on measuring the right things, and measuring them the right way. From revamping our data collection instrumentation to establishing rigorous and nimble experimentation processes, we are reinventing the relationship with our data assets to achieve the “more signal, less noise” mantra.

We are eager to deploy the next generation of ML-powered features across the board, in our internal-facing systems to keep things running smoothly and reliably, and in our intelligence offerings to help turn the goldmine of user stories our customers share with us everyday into exciting new insights into ever changing modern Web.

We’re excited to announce the release of another new integration. We’re also kicking off the month of spring with a fresh new look and feel for our keyword alerts. Now, when there’s an update to a keyword you’re monitoring, our change alerts show the keyword highlighted in yellow, making it easier for users to understand the keyword change. 

The alert also shows a list of the impacted keywords at the top of the email, making it easier for users to quickly understand the keywords in question.

First up for May, we just launched our new integration with **Google Chat**. 

For Business users, when Visualping detects a change on a web page you’re monitoring, they can get notified in their preferred spaces in Google Chat.

#### Collaborate More Easily 

Integrating change alerts with Google Chat makes it easier to collaborate with your team. The alerts are sent directly to where your work already happens, in Google Chat. 

Colleagues don’t have to check their email to know what’s going on, nor deal with an inbox cluttered with updates – notifications are integrated directly into you and your team’s preferred workflow.

#### Customize Your Notifications with Google Chat’s Settings 

Sending alerts to your Google Chat spaces, rather than to the users in your Visualping workspace, allows you to further customize your change notifications in a couple ways. 

By sending alerts to the exact Google Chat spaces of your choosing, only the most relevant stakeholders are notified of updates to a given job – rather than everybody in the workspace getting updated of all the alerts, from all the jobs, in the workspace. 

You can also personalize your alerts with Google Chat’s notification settings – such as turning up the volume for certain spaces of interest, muting others, or getting alerted only in threads you’re following.

### Spring Cleaning: Improved Design for Keyword Alerts 

#### Spot the Keyword Change More Quickly – Now, in Yellow

We’ve also been busy with an exciting new spring cleaning. 

Now, when Visualping detects a keyword change, the screenshot shows the keyword itself highlighted in yellow. This makes it easier for users to spot the update to their keyword of interest, rather than having to skim through the highlighted text to spot the exact word or phrase of interest. 

The updated keywords are also listed at the top of the alert, so the user can more quickly and easily understand the keywords in question. This is especially useful for users monitoring changes to many keywords at one time.

### Feature Spotlight of the Month 

#### Monitoring and managing web pages in bulk

### Use Case of the Month 

In line with our new blog post, May’s use case of the month centers around helping organizations against the threat of [domain spoofing](https://visualping.io/blog/web-domain-fraud-monitoring/) – **web domain fraud monitoring**. 

Domain spoofing is the registration of web domain “lookalikes” to use in phishing emails, or to impersonate your website.

It’s important to keep an eye out for potentially fraudulent web domains, such as monitoring a list of MX records from a site like [whatsmydns.net](https://www.whatsmydns.net/dns-lookup/mx-records?query=my_web_domain.com&server=google), or new activity from web domains that may be of concern. 

As manually rechecking these web pages is time-consuming, and an ineffective approach to safeguarding your brand from fraud, use [Visualping](https://visualping.io/compliance-monitoring/) to automatically monitor lists of MX records, or new activity from similar web domains that may be a concern.

What’s new this month at [Visualping](https://visualping.io/business/)?

First up, our Keyword alerts just got better. Users can view **keyword changes**, highlighted in yellow, in the **Text Compare page**, as well as in their email change alerts.

What’s more? When setting up jobs, if an error occurs with the associated URL you want to track, we now provide visibility into what that issue is. This makes it much easier for users to understand what’s happening, so they can go ahead and resolve the issue and still monitor the web pages they want to track. 

Lastly, users can now **monitor textual changes to PDFs**! Instead of limiting your PDF monitoring to visual mode, which highlights all page changes in red, users can now more easily understand the update by seeing text added to the page in green, and text removed in red.

#### Understand Keywords updates More Easily 

When monitoring pages for specific keywords of interest, users can now view those changes not just in their email change alerts, but also in the **Text Compare page**, in side-by-side format. 

You can use the Keyword button, at the top of the page, to enable and disable the highlighted keyword changes.

### Feature Spotlight of the Month 

#### Monitoring web changes in text mode 

In light of users now being able to monitor PDFs in text mode, August’s feature spotlight of the month is the ability for users to track textual changes.

**Text added and removed**. Monitoring changes in text mode comes with several perks. Rather than all the page changes being highlighted in red, text mode differentiates between changes added to the page – by highlighting it in green – and text removed from the page – highlighted in red. Users can more easily understand what happened to the page.

**Track keywords**. Monitoring changes in text also allows users to track changes to specific words and phrases of interest – highlighted in yellow. This means the user will only get notified of the most relevant changes, related to a specific subject of interest. You don’t have to filter through your email alerts to see what’s relevant to you and what’s not. 

### Increased Visibility into URL Issues When Setting Up Jobs

#### Diagnosing URL Issues Made Easy

With this release, if a URL does not load properly during the setup process, users now have more visibility in understanding what the specific issue is with the select URL they’re trying to monitor. A message will appear in the viewport, clarifying the issue. Is the URL not found in Google? Is there just a typo in the URL? Users will now know, making it easier to successfully set up their jobs.

### Monitoring PDF Changes in Text Mode 

With this release, when entering a URL that leads to a PDF document, users can now monitor changes to the PDF in text mode, rather than being limited to monitoring in visual mode, which focuses on the pixels and shows all changes in red highlight. 

Considering PDFs often feature an abundance of text, this release is particularly handy for users looking to stay on top of PDF updates. By using the text mode, users can view text added to the page in green highlight, removed text in red highlight, and also track certain keywords or phrases of interest, in yellow highlight.

### New Customer Story: How Direct TV King Beats Competitors’ Prices with Visualping

In addition, when evaluating the business subscriptions, users can now configure their own plans based on their team’s unique monitoring needs. Users can configure the number of workspaces they want, and by choosing whether they want to purchase page add-ons, and support package add-ons.

Designed for advanced users with coding experience, this new script pre-action feature is a game changer for setting up jobs with pre-actions. 

Now, when setting up a new page, you can access the exact web content you’re after by inserting Javascript into the page, to custom configure it in whichever way you want for monitoring.

The script feature opens up the opportunity for endless custom job configuration options.

## Duplicate Job Settings Efficiently with Copy & Paste

In your workspace, you can now easily duplicate job settings in just a couple of clicks – with our new copy and paste function. 

The new functionality enables copying all the settings of your job, as well as pasting, and clearing your clipboard. 

To duplicate the settings of a certain job, simply select the job to open up its settings, and click the new copy button in the top right corner. Then open the create job modal, and click the paste option to automatically prefill all the job settings.

The copy and paste function also works for creating jobs in bulk. 

Copying and pasting is especially useful for jobs with many pre-action steps, such as having various manually inputted actions. Or, maybe you used the Visualping chrome extension to automatically pull your local browser data, also resulting in many action steps for your job.

Instead of manually setting up the action features again, or repeatedly setting up jobs via the chrome extension, simply copy and paste the job settings in a couple clicks. ## Improved User Feedback Flow for Optimizing Alert Relevancy  

Next up, we released an improved user feedback flow that allows you to provide more detailed feedback tailored to your web monitoring experience. 

This, in turn, allows our [AI](https://visualping.io/ai/), Learner, to better improve your job settings, according to the feedback you provide. Job settings of other users’ similar jobs will be improved, too. Visualping AI learns from you.

Instead of selecting from a few emojis, you can provide feedback on the quality of your alerts by choosing between an upvote or downvote. If you select the downvote, you can provide additional feedback by classifying the problem from one of the preset options – such as no visible change, an element shift or repeat alert, for example.

So you only get the best, most relevant alerts in your inbox. 

## Learner in Action: Enhanced Change Detection Algorithm 

While Visualping is easy-to-use, [website change monitoring](https://visualping.io/blog/best-free-website-change-detection-monitoring-tools/) can get a little technical. 

Unexpected issues can crop up when Visualping checks a web page for changes. You may receive an alert, even when the notification appears to be some form of a glitch on the page – a false alert.

For example, such issues include:

* Image loading
* Inexplicable anomalies
* Page width changes
* Animations, overlays, etc 

No thanks. That’s why our AI has been incorporating user feedback to automatically improve the technology behind our algorithm. 

With this algorithmic update this quarter, Visualping now better detects, characterizes and visualizes what’s changed on a page. We’re leveraging new techniques to determine what has changed on the page, so that we automatically block irrelevant alerts from being sent to you.

## Enter Obfuscated Text with Pre-Actions

Now, the “Type” pre-action feature includes an option to hide your credentials. You can now enter obfuscated text to keep the text private from other users in your workspace.

Several of this months’ improvements had to do with honing our tool’s ability to notify users when a target keyword is added or removed from a web page.

When monitoring for textual changes, Visualping users can filter their alerts to only get notified when certain keywords, phrases or numbers are added or removed from the page. Users can essentially filter their notifications for the exact information they care about.

### Bulk edits

Besides amazing integrations for better collaboration and productivity, how else did we soup up [Visualping for Business](https://visualping.io/business/) this month? With new advanced settings for editing jobs in bulk. 

As part of Visualping for Business, users can scale up their monitoring by staying on top of any number of web pages for the changes that impact their organization. 

Now, users can also save time by editing any number of jobs, simultaneously. Users no longer have to manually apply edits to each job individually, but configure settings for many jobs – at once.  

With the advanced bulk editing features, users can now:

* Set the day and time of jobs,
* Set the frequency and change threshold of jobs, and
* Apply Perform Action features to jobs – for example, block a popup that always appears on the same spot for multiple jobs – typically, with the same URL.

### Optimizing the change detection algorithm 

#### Improved keyword notifications 

At Visualping, we’re proud of the quality of change alerts we send to our users. Our tool enables users to customize their monitoring with advanced features, such as with keyword alerts, so you only get notified on the exact things you care about. We’re the industry’s leading [website change detection tool](https://visualping.io/blog/best-free-website-change-detection-monitoring-tools/). 

This month, we made some changes to further optimize our change detection algorithm to reduce the chance of notifying users of false changes, with a particular focus on keyword alerts – in particular, phrases that include multiple words, and numbers. 

#### Keyword reports

Rather than skimming through new change alerts to see which specific keyword was detected, users can now simply refer to the **keywords report** – an exported report that shows the exact keywords that were triggered in each new change alert. 

Especially for users monitoring many keywords, and/or web pages in bulk, the keyword reports helps users save time by being able to easily identify which keywords, in particular, were detected for a given alert. 

#### Improved ability for users to provide feedback

At Visualping, we understand user feedback is not only important, but invaluable in order to continuously improve a product. That’s why, this month, we made it easier for users to provide their feedback. 

Before, users could only provide feedback from a new email alert – three emojis sat at the bottom of the email, giving the user the option to communicate their satisfaction with the quality of the alert. 

Now, users can not only provide feedback when they’re viewing an email alert, but also in their user dashboard. 

The feedback emojis now sit in the top right corner of the visual compare modal of any job – whether the job is new or old – so users can more easily provide their feedback, and right away. 

### Customer story: InstaTrac 

Last but certinaly not least, we’ve published a new customer story, with the legislative tracking service and long-time esteemed Visualping user, [InstaTrac](https://welcome.instatrac.com/).

InstaTrac needed a website change monitoring tool to more efficiently stay on top of legal and regulatory updates in Massachusetts. Manually rechecking web sources was time-consuming, and risked delayed responses to urgent updates.

As Chelsea Peterson reports, InstaTrac’s Chief Operations Officer, Visualping’s ease-of-use empowers their less tech-savvy employees to set up their own monitoring for the information they know they need – without requiring developers to build custom scrapers. This has the added benefit of freeing up the developers for more value-added tasks.

#### What’s new this month at Visualping?

We’re celebrating the summer months by launching our new **Viewer Roles**. Our new **Viewer Role Permission** enterprise-grade feature enables admin users to grant access to specific content and data to workspace members, without granting administrative or editing privileges.

We’re also thrilled to have attended the year’s biggest event for the legal tech space, **AALL 2023**, in Boston.

### First Up: Viewer Roles

#### Controlled Access

The **Viewer Role Permission** is an enterprise-grade feature designed to provide admin users the ability to control which workspace members can edit and modify monitored jobs. Now, some workspace members can receive web change alerts, without the ability to edit the job. 

How does it work? When inviting new members to your workspace, you can assign them the role of being able to either edit jobs, or view jobs. After having sent the invites, you can also edit the roles, as well as edit current workspace members’ roles. 

#### Read-Only Data

By allowing users to view job change history and receive alerts without risking accidental modifications, the Viewer Role Permission feature helps users safeguard their data integrity and promote compliance and confidentiality.

#### Compliance Adherence

Viewer Role Permissions also enables enterprises in highly regulated industries, such as Financial Services or Legal/Government firms, to ensure compliance and adhere to internal governance policies.

Regulations in the financial industry, for example, prohibit users from accessing non-publicly available pages via the use of credentials. A viewer role gives companies the ability to choose who is habilitated to use the action features to monitor a page behind a login wall.

#### CurrencyCloud Ensures Marketing Compliance with Visualping 

This month we were excited to publish a new [customer story](https://visualping.io/blog/currencycloud-customer-story/) from [CurrencyCloud](https://www.currencycloud.com/) – a cloud-based B2B payment platform. They needed a compliance monitoring tool to efficiently monitor their clients’ websites and make sure their product was being marketed according to strict regulatory requirements.

Currencycloud’s regulatory team uses Visualping to automatically track hundreds of client websites for prohibited language in communicating their product to end users. Visualping enables the payment platform to stay on top of potentially noncompliant marketing language, saving time for the regulatory team and reducing the risk of noncompliance.

### Reducing Internal Errors, and Increasing Transparency 

For the past several months, Visualping has been continuously working to reduce internal product errors, making the site and crawling more reliable for users. We’ve been tackling bugs left and right and, as a result, we have reduced internal errors from 4-5% to less than 1%! 

Now, if you receive an error in your job, this is most likely a result of the website, itself, that you're tracking, rather than Visualping. 

Additionally, users want to know when a job fails. For building trust and transparency in our platform, Visualping now shows these internal errors to you in your dashboard and reports.

### Alerting Users on Website-Related Errors 

Similarly, you will now have the option to be notified of job run errors that result from the website you're tracking. When an issue with the website occurs, you will receive a change alert of the message on the browser. 

Examples of the types of errors you can be notified of are below.

* Address Unreachable

### Visualping Now Automatically Blocks Cookies and Pop-Up Ads 

#### No More Irrelevant Pop-Ups Getting in the Way 

Visualping’s new AI feature, Learner, has been leveraging user feedback to automatically improve users’ job settings, to reduce irrelevant alerts. Now, as a result, all new and existing Visualping jobs will block cookie pop-ups and ads. 

When setting up a new job, you don’t have to use the Perform Action features to remove cookie and ad pop-ups that block the content you want to track. Visualping will automatically block pop-ups for you, so you can access the content you’re after, and save an extra step in the job setup process. 

You also don’t have to worry about receiving irrelevant change alerts from cookie and ad pop-ups. Visualping automatically blocks them for you. 

As a bonus benefit, when setting up your Visualping job, many websites will also load way faster.

### New Perform Action feature: Go To 

#### Access the Content You Want in Less Clicks 

For when you do want Visualping to navigate a page in a certain way to access the content you’re after, we have a new Perform actions feature: Go To. Go To makes it easier to access the content you want on the website, without having to add various action features to do so, speeding up the job setup process.

When setting up a new page to monitor, you can use the Perform actions features to tell Visualping to navigate the page in a certain way, so the tool can access the web content you want checked for changes.

With Go To, this actions feature allows you to navigate to a new page, based on the URL you enter. It makes job actions much easier, especially in cases with login, redirects or other navigation needs, because Visualping will automatically navigate to the website you enter, reducing the number of actions to get there. 

### Automatically Improve Your AI Summaries with Feedback 

In beta, as a Visualping for Business user, you can now provide feedback on the quality of your AI summaries. Visualping uses this feedback to optimize the quality of the summaries, so users can understand page changes faster with intuitive summaries tailored to what you want to monitor.

For example, in order to locate a specific job error, you’ve needed to flick through each of your Visualping jobs to see it. Now, you can more quickly navigate through errors, and access your job health, in your Visualping dashboard.

### Feature Spotlight of the Month 

#### Perform actions 

Sometimes, accessing a page entails filling in a login form. An option from a dropdown menu may need to be selected, or a button or two may need to be clicked, in order to access the page.

You can monitor these pages with Visualping by using the pre-action tools.
When setting up the monitor, use the pre-action tools to tell Visualping how to navigate the page – to fill in that form, select from that dropdown menu and click those buttons, etc. Pre-action tools allow you to instruct Visualping how to access a page, in order to check it for changes.
